The belief in the benefits of Ju Hua for promoting longevity and well-being has been reflected in Chinese poetry and medical texts throughout history. The earliest Materia Medica, Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing tells us, "taken over a long time, it will facilitate qi and blood, lighte the body, and prevent aging.
The Ben Cao Cong Xin (1751) states that the "sweet chrysanthemum flower" is completely infused with the qi of the four seasons, sprouting in winter, growing leaves in spring, blooming in summer, and reaching full bloom in autumn.
