Ban Bian Lian Granules, 100g

Ban Bian Lian, known in pharmaceutical Latin as Herba Lobeliae Chinensis, is the whole herb of Chinese Lobelia and is classified among the Herbs that Drain Dampness (Diuretics). Entering the Heart, Lung, and Small Intestine channels, this slightly cold herb is valued for its ability to promote urination, reduce edema, and clear Heat and toxicity both internally and topically.

TCM Herb Profile

Ban Bian Lian promotes urination and reduces edema, making it applicable for floating edema, ascites, and end-stage schistosomiasis. It also clears Heat, cools the Blood, and reduces toxicity both internally and topically. It is the herb of choice for snakebites and wasp and bee stings, and can be used alone both internally and topically for insect or snake bites. Additional indications include Blood Heat and Toxic Fire conditions such as tonsillitis.

Note: This herb can cause loose stools when decocted.

Both Ban Bian Lian and Hb. Hedyotis Diffusae (Bai Hua She She Cao) facilitate the removal of pathogenic water, reduce edema, clear Heat, and resolve toxicity. Ban Bian Lian is a stronger diuretic while Bai Hua She She Cao is stronger at cooling and removing Damp-Heat and is preferred in the treatment of painful urinary dysfunction.

Herb/Drug Interactions: Concurrent use with diuretics such as chlorothiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide (Lasix), bumetanide (Bumex), and torsemide (Demadex) may lead to increased elimination of water and/or electrolytes.
