Fang Ji Huang Qi Tang (Stephania and Astragalus Decoction) is a classical TCM formula from Zhang Zhong-Jing’s Jin Gui Yao Lue. It addresses wind-water and wind-damp patterns characterized by superficial edema and joint swelling with an underlying qi deficiency of the Spleen and Lung. Huang Qi (astragalus) is the chief herb, tonifying the defensive qi and Spleen to support proper fluid metabolism, while Han Fang Ji promotes urination and leaches out accumulated dampness.
