Cinnamon Twig Decoction: releases pathogenic Wind-Cold and regulates the Nutritive and Protective Qi.

Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is one of the oldest and most celebrated formulas in the Chinese medicine canon, first appearing in the Shang Han Lun by Zhang Zhong-jing. It is the representative formula for externally contracted Wind-Cold in a deficiency constitution, where disharmony between the Nutritive (Ying) and Protective (Wei) Qi produces fever with sweating, aversion to wind, and stiff neck.

  • Releases pathogenic Wind-Cold from the muscle layer while harmonizing the Nutritive and Protective Qi
  • Traditionally indicated for early-stage upper respiratory infections and influenza in a constitutionally weakened exterior, as well as post-illness and post-partum presentations
  • Also applicable in allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and certain eczema presentations rooted in Ying and Wei disharmony
  • An elegantly simple 5-herb formula: Gui Zhi and Bai Shao form the primary pair, supported by Gan Cao, Da Zao, and Sheng Jiang

ActiveHerb Gui Zhi Tang Granules are produced as a 5:1 whole-formula co-extract. This classical formula serves as a foundation for many Shang Han Lun modifications and remains a cornerstone of academic and clinical TCM practice.
