Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) is the foundational classical formula for nourishing and invigorating the Blood, and the primary formula for regulating menstruation. First recorded in the Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang, this elegant 4-herb formula has served as the Blood-nourishing core from which countless formulas are derived, including Ba Zhen Tang and Tao Hong Si Wu Tang.

• Shu Di Huang and Bai Shao nourish and astringe the Blood; Dang Gui tonifies and invigorates the Blood; Chuan Xiong moves the Blood and regulates Qi within the Blood
• Traditionally the primary formula for menstrual irregularity, scanty flow, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, and peri-umbilical or lower abdominal pain associated with Blood deficiency and stasis
