Purges gallbladder, clears damp-heat, and resolves phlegm

Zhu Dan Tablets are based on patent remedies traditionally used for gallbladder inflammation and congestion, such as Lidan Pian and Lidan Paishi Pian, sharing ingredients like lyshimachia, saussurea, and capillaris. These formulas promote bile flow (as lidan regulates the gallbladder) and enhance qi circulation. They also follow traditional prescriptions for addressing central stagnation, such as Yuega Wan (Pills to Remove Stagnancy of All Kinds) and Liuyu Tang (Decoction for Six Kinds of Stagnation), which commonly include red atractylodes, gardenia, and cnidium. Together, these ingredients target internal organ issues like gallstones and cholecystitis. They are particularly effective for treating gallbladder syndromes characterized by stagnated dampness and heat, manifesting as symptoms such as itching skin, allergic reactions, nasal congestion, fat digestion problems, constipation, mental fog, indecisiveness, and soft lumps. The primary components are red atractylodes (Cang Zhu) and salvia (Dan Shen); Cang Zhu is aromatic and dispersing, relieving dampness, while Dan Shen is bitter, cooling, and invigorates blood, addressing blood stagnation. The formula balances qi, moisture, and blood flow, with its main action being to resolve phlegm-dampness complicated by heat. It can be compared to Diagnostic Tablets, which also address stagnation of qi, moisture, and blood but target cold syndromes. Zhu Dan Tablets are suitable as an initial step in a liver detoxification program aimed at cleansing the gallbladder, such as in treatments involving Taraxogen or White Tiger.
