Gui Pi (Cinnamon Bark)
Gui Pi is the outer, coarser bark of Cinnamomum cassia. It is related to Rou Gui (inner cinnamon bark) but is considered milder in action. Like Rou Gui, it belongs to the category of interior-warming herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine, though its yang-tonifying effect is less pronounced.
Actions & Indications:
- Warms the interior and disperses cold
- Warms the Spleen and Stomach
- Promotes blood circulation
- Alleviates pain from cold
Common Uses: Cold abdominal pain, diarrhea from cold, poor circulation, and yang deficiency patterns. Often used interchangeably with Rou Gui in some preparations, though Rou Gui is preferred for strong yang tonification.
Properties: Pungent, sweet; hot. Enters the Kidney, Spleen, Heart, and Liver channels.
Note: Gui Pi is the outer bark and is milder than Rou Gui (inner bark). Confirm product sourcing if strong yang tonification is the clinical goal.
