On the tongue, a single drop of this essential oil offers a sensation that is mildly numbing, spicy, bitter, and sweet. It penetrates to the core and then disperses outward to detoxify and nourish simultaneously.

Jin Yin Hua, meaning “Gold Silver Flower,” symbolizes flowers that are both nourishing (gold) and purifying (silver). The buds are silver, which is preferred medicinally, and they turn gold as the blooms fully open after a few days. Lonicera japonica is an exceptionally vigorous vine. Its Chinese name, Ren Dong, meaning “winter resisting,” highlights its perennial nature and cold resistance. The highest quality grows in Henan and Shandong provinces.

Jin Yin Hua essential oil is a fragrant and calming yet potent remedy for eliminating heat and detoxifying the body. It possesses strong anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making it suitable for infections of the throat, digestive system, and skin. Its primary function is to draw out toxins from the body.

In Chinese medicine, this herb is well known for treating colds, flus, and respiratory infections characterized by fever, sore throat, and irritability. As an essential oil blend for this purpose, practitioners may find it useful to combine Jin Yin Hua with Ju Hua (Flos chrysanthemi), Jing Jie (Schizonepeta), and Bo He (Peppermint).

It assists in removing age spots, breaking down fibrotic tissue, scars, and infections of the throat, digestive tract, and skin. For age spots, combining it with Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica) and Rose or Jasmine diluted in a Pomegranate seed oil base may be beneficial.
