Warms the middle burner and strenthens the Spleen and Stomach*
This formula is used to treat a number of different patterns, the most important of which is middle burner cold from deficiency, also known as middle burner yang deficiency characterized by diarrhea with watery stools, nausea and vomiting, no particular thirst, loss of appetite, abdominal pain. A second important pattern is bleeding due to middle burner yang deficiency. Manifestations include nose bleeds, vomiting of blood, excessive menstrual bleeding, bleeding from the rectum and various types of internal bleeding. Chronic childhood convulsions characterized by emaciation, cold hands and feet, vomiting, and diarrhea; spitting of frothy saliva during the recovery stage of an illness; sudden turmoil disorder with cold marked by an absence of thirst. Chest painful obstruction characterized by rigid focal distention in the heart region, a sense of fullness in the chest, and pain in the hypochondria that shoots toward the heart.

Chinese Symptomology: Diarrhea with watery stools, nausea and vomiting, no particular thirst, loss of appetite, abdominal pain; nose bleeds, vomitying of blood, excessive menstrual bleeding, bleeding rom the rectum, and various types of internal bleeding (in all cases, the blood is pale and the bleeding is accompaned by cold extremities, a wan complexion); emaciation, cold hands and feet, vomiting, and diarrhea, spitting of frothy saliva during the recovery stage of an illness, sudden turmoil disorder with cold marked by an absence of thirst; rigid focal distention in the heart region, a sense of fullness in the chest, and pain in the hypochondria that shoots toward the heart.
Contraindications: Not be be used for externally-contracted disorders with fever or yin deficiency. For sudden turmoil disorder, its use should be discontinued once the vomiting and diarrhea have stopped.
