Pain-relieving Soak-Compress #9

Spring Wind's herbal soak-compresses are formulas ground to a coarse powder and sewn into reusable cloth pouches. They are designed to be steamed or soaked in hot water and applied to the injured area, allowing the penetrating warmth and therapeutic properties of the herbs to work directly on the affected tissue.

Pain-relieving Soak-Compress #9 is drawn from The Essentials of Bone-setting (Zheng Gu Cu Yao), a classical Qing dynasty (1644-1912) manual dedicated to the treatment of traumatic injury. This rich lineage of orthopedic and traumatology formulas represents centuries of clinical refinement in the treatment of sinew, bone, and soft tissue damage.

Clinical Applications

This formula is indicated for second-stage sinew damage - the phase after acute inflammation has resolved but pain remains the primary complaint. Within the second-stage soak-compress group, this formula is specifically selected when pain is the dominant symptom. It can be used as an alternative to or in rotation with Ma's Post-Trauma Soak-Compress #8, and may also support patients who have recently had a cast removed and are experiencing significant discomfort.

Strongly relieves pain, moves blood and dispels stasis, relaxes sinew and tendon, dispels wind and damp.

Application

Steam or soak the pouched formula in hot water and apply to the affected area while warm. Maintain heat with a heating pad or towel wrap. Reuse the same pouch for multiple treatments. Do not apply to broken or abraded skin.
