Sang Ju Yin (Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction) is a classical formula from Wu Ju-Tong’s Wen Bing Tiao Bian (Systematic Differentiation of Warm Pathogen Diseases). It is a light, gently dispersing formula designed for the early stage of wind-heat invasion affecting the Lung, with the primary complaint of cough. Sang Ye (mulberry leaf) and Ju Hua (chrysanthemum) disperse wind-heat from the upper burner; Bo He, Lian Qiao, and Jie Geng further release the exterior and open the Lung; Xing Ren and Gan Cao descend Lung qi and stop coughing; and Lu Gen generates fluids to prevent the drying effects of heat.
