Tonifies the qi, nourishes the blood, promotes movement of qi, thrusts pus out, and dissipates swelling*

According to Introduction to Medicine, this formula "treats unnamed noxious swellings, abscesses, flat abscesses, and such... if the pulse is not flooding, moderate, submerged, slow, tight, or thin, [this formula] is inappropriate." It also mentions treatment of the initial stage of neck tumors. In addition, Restoration of Health from the Myriad Diseases recommends the formula for treatment of 'breast rocks', which it describes: Initially, a kernel, swollen [to a shape] like a tortoise the size of a chess piece" with no pain or itching. After five or six years, it transforms into a sore... It most often occurs in depressed, middle-aged women who hold in their anger. The text also recommends the formula for breast abscesses or for the toxic abscesses and tumors of pox disorders.
