Bensky describes that "the leaves are dry-fried at a high temperature until scorched brown, but not deformed. They are then sprayed with water to cool them, and then dried. ... This method of preparation is thought to reduce the herb's cold property, and thus its ability to cool the blood, but also enhance its ability to stop bleeding; it can therefore be used for both hot and cold bleeding disorders.
