Spring Wind
A TCM soft plaster based on a modification of Zi Jing Pi San (Ming dynasty). Focuses primarily on swelling reduction. Dissipates swelling, moves qi and blood, and clears heat and resolves toxin. Well suited when edema and tissue swelling are the predominant features. May be combined with Plasters #1, #2, or #4 for added effect. Applied to gauze and placed on intact skin. For external use only.
Spring Wind's soft plasters are traditional Chinese herbal formulas prepared in an organic sesame oil and beeswax base. They are spread onto gauze and applied directly to the affected area. Do not apply to broken skin.
Dissipation Soft Plaster #3 is a modification of Zi Jing Pi San, a classical formula first described in a Ming dynasty treatise on external medicine. The original formula is well established for its ability to dissipate swellings, and Spring Wind's adaptation refines its action by incorporating Huang Bai (Phellodendron bark) to clear heat and resolve toxin - an important addition, as the dissipating agents in this class of formula tend to be warm and acrid in nature and thus require a cooling counterbalance.
Clinical Applications
This formula focuses on swelling reduction and is indicated when swelling, rather than pain, is the prominent feature. It is well suited to first or second-stage injuries where edema and tissue swelling are significant. It can be used alone or blended with Plaster #1 or #2 when swelling is extreme. It is frequently combined with Double-Cooling Plaster #4 to enhance its heat-clearing function.
