Actions: Nourishes Yin to decrease pathogenic fire.
Pattern: Hyperactivity of fire caused by Yin deficiency.
Chinese Symptomology: Hectic fever, night sweats, lower back soreness and weakness, sore knees, sore throat, insomnia, chronic swelling of the gums, tinnitus, and nocturnal seminal emission.
Contraindications: Shu Di Huang, a relatively greasy herb, can aggravate phlegm and food stasis, causing bloating, nausea, or loose stools. Discontinue use during colds and flu. Use caution for those with Spleen Deficiency type diarrhea and indigestion with a white greasy tongue coat. Contraindicated for those with Yang Deficiency.
