Ginkgo has been extensively evaluated and shown to enhance brain functions (including in those with Alzheimer\'s disease) probably by improving brain circulation. It has also been reported helpful in treating depression, peripheral neuropathy, and other disorders. A dose of ginkgo 50:1 extract, (24% flavonoids, 6% terpenoids) corresponding to at least the amount used in the clinical evaluations (120-240 mg per day), has been included in the 2-4 tablet suggested dosage of this formula (with the addition of 8:1 extract that provides the broad spectrum of leaf components). It is complemented by Chinese herbs that are thought to enhance brain function: salvia to promote blood circulation and acorus plus polygala to "clear the heart orifices." In Chinese medical practice, the combination of acorus, polygala and salvia is used to improve circulation to the brain an alleviate tinnitus. To precursor molecules choline, lecithin, and inositol, and key B-vitamins have been included. Finally, to help retain maximum circulatory functions, the antioxidants vitamin C and vitamin E have been incorporated into the formula. This comprehensive approach represents an attractive alternative to simply taking ginkgo extracts.*
