The aroma of Qiang Huo essential oil has a warm, earthy, pungent sharpness that when deeply inhaled seems to penetrate into the bones of the head, neck and shoulders.

As a topical application Qiang Huo is deeply warming and excels at releasing pain and heaviness from the sinews and joints, especially that caused or worsened by exposure to cold, damp weather.*

Qiang Huo is often paired with Du Huo (Angelica pubiscentis) for generalized pain of the bones and joints as one (Qiang Huo) is said to more strongly work on the upper body and limbs, whereas the other (Du Huo) is said to work more on the lower back and limbs. This combination can be made stronger and warmer by blending with one of the Cinnamon essential oils (Rou Gui or Gui Zhi/Gui Ye). All three oils enter the bladder channel which makes them good choices to work on the back and spine.*

Qiang Huo îs also an excellent choice to treat headaches that originate in the occipital region, back of the head, or neck. For this purpose, massaging the area and steam inhalation with Qiang Huo essential oil is an effective tool.*
