Zhu Ye Shi Gao Tang is a classical TCM formula that clears heat, generates fluids, augments the qi, and harmonizes the Stomach.


Zhu Ye Shi Gao Tang, translated as Lophatherus and Gypsum Decoction, is a classical TCM formula from the Shang Han Lun. It is designed for the later stages of febrile illness where the pathogen has largely resolved but lingering heat and damaged fluids remain, combining heat-clearing with fluid-generating and qi-augmenting herbs in a balanced approach.

Pattern: Qi-level heat lingering in the Lungs and Stomach where it injures the qi and fluids
Chinese Symptomology: Lingering fever (from a febrile disease) accompanied by vomiting, irritability, thirst, parched mouth, lips, and throat, choking cough, stifling sensation in the chest. Some patients experience restlessness and insomnia
Contraindications: Not appropriate for febrile diseases where both the normal and pathogenic qi are abundant, when the fever remains high, or when the qi and yin have not yet been injured
