San Huang Xie Xin Tang (Three-Yellow Decoction to Drain the Epigastrium) is a classical formula from Zhang Zhong-Jing’s Jin Gui Yao Lue. It is one of the most potent fire-clearing and toxin-resolving formulas in the classical repertoire, using all three “yellow” bitter cold herbs - Huang Lian (coptis), Huang Qin (scutellaria), and Da Huang (rhubarb) - in combination. Huang Lian drains Heart and Stomach fire; Huang Qin clears Lung and upper burner heat; Da Huang drains fire downward through the bowels and simultaneously dries dampness. The formula is indicated for vigorous fire excess with heat and dampness across multiple burners. Available from TCM Zone as concentrated granules in 42 individual packets.
