It also moistens the intestines and moves the bowels. Hong Hua (Safflower Flower), too, invigorates the blood while also unblocking the Channels, thereby dispersing stasis. Dang Gui (Chinese Angelica Root) nourishes and invigorates the blood, and like Tao Ren, it also moistens the intestines and moves the bowels. Chuan Xiong (Szechuan Lovage Root) invigorates the blood and moves Qi and expels wind. Mo Yao (Myrrh Resin) invigorates blood circulation.

Qin Jiao (Largeleaf Gentian Root) disperses wind-damp and clears damp-heat. Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Root) disperses cold and dispels wind, while expelling dampness.

Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rhizome) promotes Qi movement and resolves Qi stagnation.

Meanwhile, Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root) tonifies the Liver and Kidneys, strengthens sinews and bones, dispels stasis and unblocks the Channels while also inducing the blood moving downward. Di Long (Earthworm) unblocks the collaterals and promotes urination.

Pian Jiang Huang (Turmeric) breaks up blood stasis and moves Qi and unblocks the Channels.

Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis) is a representative of many of the other herbs in the formula, as it possesses the actions of invigorating the blood, promoting movement of Qi, and relieving discomfort.

Finally, Gan Cao (Licorice Root) Tonifies the Spleen and mediates the action of other herbs in a concerted way.
