Stasis-dissipating Soak-Compress #10

Spring Wind's herbal soak-compresses are formulas ground to a coarse powder and sewn into reusable cloth pouches. They are steamed or soaked in hot water before application, harnessing both therapeutic heat and the direct penetrating action of the herbs to support healing of injured soft tissue.

Stasis-Dissipating Soak-Compress #10 is based on a formula from The Essentials of Bone-setting (Zheng Gu Cu Yao), the authoritative Qing dynasty (1644-1912) clinical text on traumatology and the treatment of bone and sinew injury. The formula was selected and adapted for its emphasis on resolving blood stasis - the pathological accumulation of static blood that develops in the days and weeks following traumatic injury.

Clinical Applications

This formula is best suited for second-stage sinew damage, specifically when blood stasis is the primary pathological factor. It is the preferred choice within the second-stage group when the injury presents with the hallmarks of blood stasis: a fixed, stabbing or aching quality of pain, purplish discoloration, and pronounced joint pain that is worse with pressure or movement. Post-trauma blood-stasis joint pain is a particularly strong indication.

TCM Actions

Dissipates stasis, breaks blood and quickens blood, relieves pain, moves qi and blood in the channels and collaterals.

Application

Steam or soak the pouched formula in hot water and apply to the affected area while warm. Maintain heat with a heating pad or towel wrap. Reuse the same pouch for multiple treatments. Do not apply to broken or abraded skin.
