Linking Decoction: nourishes and enriches Liver Blood and Kidney Yin while coursing the Liver and rectifying the Qi.

Yi Guan Jian (Linking Decoction) is a classical formula from Wei Zhi-xiu's Continuation of Famous Physicians' Cases Organized by Categories. It is particularly effective for the concurrent pattern of Liver and Kidney Yin deficiency with Liver Qi constraint, a presentation in which deficient Yin fails to nourish the Liver, leading to Qi stagnation and Heat. The formula nourishes Yin and simultaneously courses the Liver to resolve this constraint-from-deficiency dynamic.

  • Di Huang (the chief herb at 40% of the formula) powerfully nourishes Liver and Kidney Yin and is supported by Bei Sha Shen, Mai Dong, Dang Gui, and Gou Qi Zi
  • A single small dose of Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan fruit) courses the Liver, relieves constraint, and clears Liver Heat without damaging the Yin
  • Traditionally used for hypochondriac and stomach duct pain, chest fullness, dry and parched mouth and throat, acid reflux, and muscle cramps in presentations of Liver and Kidney Yin deficiency with Qi stagnation
  • This formula should not be used for distention and pain due to phlegm or dampness

ActiveHerb Yi Guan Jian Granules are produced as a 5:1 whole-formula co-extract. Suitable for licensed practitioners distinguishing between Yi Guan Jian, Si Ni San, and Xiao Yao San for Liver constraint presentations based on the degree of Yin deficiency present.
