The silk tree's vibrant pink, fluffy blossoms evoke emotions of joy, upliftment, and stress relief, much like its bark. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is used to calm the Spirit and alleviate constraints, such as Liver qi stagnation.
Calms the Spirit and relieves constraint.
- Constrained emotions with bad temper, depression, insomnia, irritability, and poor memory
Invigorates and harmonizes the Blood, stops pain, and reconnects sinews and bones.
- Mildly treats pain and swelling due to trauma, including fractures.
Regulates Qi, alleviates pain, dissipates swellings, and reduces abscesses
- Pain and swelling of abscesses (internally and externally)
Sweet and neutral, Albiziae Cortex (he huan pi) augments the Heart and Spleen, releases Liver constraint, invigorates the blood, stops pain, generates flesh, and reconnects bones. It is most often used for patterns of Liver constraint leading to stifling sensations in the chest, worry, bad temper, forgetfulness, and insomnia, but is also useful for injures from trauma, and the pain of sores and boils. --Bensky: Chinese Herbal Medicine Materia Medica, 3rd ed.
